letter from the editor #2
This shiny autumn bears witness to the publication of our third official issue (aka Issue 2). It’s short, but sweet. Which may feel wrong right before a period of hibernation. For that, I apologise.
The issue opens up with the lingering heat of summer and K. R.’s A Small Glass Bottle — With Fruit. The anonymous author nonchalantly describes, to me, an almost longing. A disconnect and yet some attempt at connection, albeit from a distance. Then we are flung head first into autumn with Farah Ali’s losing you i seek refuge in the leaf litter and with that flinging there is now an explicit kind of longing, a well-crafted ache.
When I asked for submissions for Issue 2, I offered up the theme of transformation. Perhaps as somewhat of an autumnal cliche. Nonetheless, two poems touch on the theme beautifully: I once was a willow by Rebecca Clifford and Arachne by Matthew Mousseau. The former growing into herself, while the latter shrinks away.
There is so much more in this sweet little issue, so please go and have a read.
Lots of love,
Beth
